CHURCH, youth and community groups in Worcestershire are being urged to join a parliamentary candidate in knitting baby hats.

Richard Burt, Liberal Democrat candidate for West Worcestershire, has volunteered to learn how to knit to help Save the Children's latest campaign to save 10 million children's lives.

The campaign encourages people in the UK to knit life-saving hats for newborn babies around the world.

He is appealing for groups to take part in Save the Children's 'Knit One, Save One' campaign.

“The large majority of child deaths are preventable and its wonderful to know that a simple solution such as knitting a hat can help to save a life,” he said.

“I hope the fact that such a small action can have an impact will inspire people to take part in this campaign and knit a hat for Save the Children.

“I have forgotten how to knit, but would be very happy to join in a knitting circle and learn again with a group of volunteer knitters.”
