ARE you a budding journalist or keen writer?

Do you like to keep up with the news and gossip from your patch in Worcestershire?

Have you got what it takes to be one of our Community Champions?

We at your Worcester News have launched a search for people just like you who are proud of their locality and have a desire to let people know exactly what’s going on in it.

We're on the lookout for people who will be able to keep readers abreast with what's happening right on their doorstep - news they can upload straight onto worcesternews.co.uk via our forums here.

If you know when the next meeting of the local photographic club is being held - we want to hear about it; if your neighbour's pooch has gone wandering - we want to know where and when and if your local pub's football team is recruiting new players - tell the whole county.

You could be a student hoping to break in to journalism, a retired person looking to celebrate the goings-on in their area or perhaps you were just born with your ear to the ground.

Whatever your circumstances we want to hear from you.

We're looking for Community Champions from all the areas listed on our forum homepage under 'Your news'. Check them out here.

All you need do to post is register for the forums (you'll still have to do this even if you're registered for the main site) then upload your stories when you get them.

For students in particular this is a perfect opportunity to prove your writing ability to a wider audience and get something online for the world to see.

So what are you waiting for? Tell us what's going on and you never know - some of your work might make it to the main newspaper...

Surelyour local councillors could do this? They know what`s going on!
They keep their fingers on the pulse/purse of our local communities... and can`t do enough to explain why it`s more than their job`s worth to do anything about the squalour around us!

Hmm...not much feedback there, Murray? But at least you did try.
But as for championing this ludicrous Champion mantra, you betray your lack of reality.
These Champs, Ambassadors or whatever the dying Blairite system called them, will soon be dead in the water, and all the better for it. The cost of setting such systems up, with all their unaccountable, publicly-funded admin staff, started off as a bit of a joke to those of us who instinctively knew what a scam it would be, but it is now a real scandal. What a criminal drain on our public purse.
And that's from someone who was naif enough to get involved in too many of those at the start.

Whilst I admire the thought process behind this initiative, the feedback you have received suggests that either people will use it to moan about their particular bugbears or use it to further their political views or agenda.
