Post your memories of Tony Ballard

A MASSIVE search for a teenager feared drowned in the river Severn ended in tragedy tonight when a body was pulled from the water.

The boy, now named as 17-year-old vicar's son Tony Ballard, had been swimming with friends when he got into difficulty at about 3.30pm this afternoon.

Police received numerous 999 calls from people on the Worcester river bank who had heard the boy’s cries for help.

Emergency services launched a huge search operation, but it was called off at about 6.10pm when a body was recovered by a diver near the spot where the boy had last been seen.

Full story in tomorrow's Worcester News.

My mum used to work with his dad loads through the Worcester diocese. A vicar who did the nicest thing a man can do by adopting and raising a child that isn't biologically his simply doesn't deserve this.
Thoughts are Wtih Duncan and indeed the rest of his family.

As for Tony, I cant believe its happened. He was such a nice lad. I remember having a laugh with him running up and down the touchline waiting to come on for a footy match playing for school once. When we came on, he was on a hat trick and had an open goal but passed it to me so I could get one. I guess that says a lot about him.

No one deserves this to happen. I just wish there was something I could do, but I know im powerless to this tragedy that has happened :'(

R.I.P mate. Gone but not forgotten.

We are so deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of Tony, such a lovely young lad. Tony was the first friend our son Luke made after moving to Worcester last year. They enrolled on the same course at Worc Tech. Luke has some great memories including a holiday in Scotland he shared with Tony and his parents. Our thoughts are with them now at this terrible time. Rest in peace Tony, you will leave a big hole in the hearts of so many.

Tony was in some of my lessons at college, we sat next to each other in art and always had a laugh. He was a really funny guy and it's just surreal to think he isn't with us anymore. As Dan said, thoughts are with the family and close friends.

Rest in peace Tony, missed already.

Such a very sad loss of a young life. My thoughts are with Tony's family and friends.

I remember about 7 years ago a young lad from Worcester lost his life after wading into a fishing pool in Lower Broadheath.

I can only hope that this tragedy will deter other people from swimming in unsupervised inland waters.

I know in hot weather the rivers, ponds, lakes and reservoirs can seem so inviting, but it is so dangerous to swim in them guys.

Please, go to a local swimming pool or a beach with lifeguards.

Too many families have lost precious loved ones this way.

Although I did not know Tony, I know his father Duncan. It is so clear from others' comments that Tony was much loved and respected and that he will be missed by very many friends and family. I pray to God with all my heart that Duncan and his family will receive all the strength and support they need as they come to terms with their tragic loss.

I could not believe it when I heard. Tony was such a great guy and the last couple of years at bishops would have been so dull without him. He brought much fun and laughter to our music and art lessons, and the four of us sitting at our table in English had many entertaining hours. He was such a lovely, happy-go-lucky kind of guy who touched so many peoples lives. My thoughts are with his family, it must be so hard at this time. The picture at the top of this article really sums Tony up: exactly as i remember him, always wearing that smile!
Rest in peace Tony, you will be greatly missed x
