Children's film will get a red-carpet premiere

IT’S lights, camera, action for pupils at Cradley Primary School, near Malvern, who have been filming scenes for a movie about imagination that will receive its own premiere.

The 20 pupils from year three and four tried their hand at camera work, sound work, directing and acting for The Ikflanix.

Their finished production will be screened at a special premiere at the Odeon in Hereford along with films made by other county schools.

During the project, the children have been involved with all aspects of film making from choosing a subject and title to script writing, costume, casting and directing.

The school linked their film project with Ledbury Poetry Festival and, after a visit from poet Phillip Wells, decided to write a poem of their own and base their film on that.

Their poem and film are about the light and dark sides of the imagination, about things children like and things they are scared of, from ice creams and lollipops to being afraid of the dark.

Teacher Deana Fieldhouse said: “The children have loved being involved and they’ve learned a lot about film making.” She said they had learned just how much work goes into creating a few seconds on the screen. The footage will be edited by the children and will eventually make up a three-minute short film.

All the children involved and their teachers will attend the red-carpet premiere at the Odeon in September. Cradley Primary is one of seven Herefordshire schools taking part in the project, which has been organised by Catcher-Media of Hereford.
