Pupils celebrate 40 years with rocket launch

A ROCKET launch with a difference has been held at a Worcester after-school club to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing.

Youngsters at the Brighter Futures after-school club made their own rockets out of pop bottles and card and then launched them into the air.

Nicola Turrell, who runs the club based at Cherry Orchard Primary School in Timberdine Close, said it was a very successful day.

“The children were really excited about it. When they were launched into the air they went about 10 to 20 feet into the air, they really did look very good,” she said.

“About 30 children took part in the day of children aged between four to 11 years old.

“They learnt a lot, from designing the rockets, to the history of the first moon landing and also the science behind what makes a rocket. We will be repeating this experiment when we run a holiday club in the summer holidays.”
