A TEAM of chefs have made sure students at a Worcester restaurant are at the top of the culinary league.

The chefs from the Sixways Stadium visited the Spires Restaurant at the Worcester College of Technology.

Executive chef Lawson Shuttleworth, senior sous chef Richard Veale and junior sous chef Jason Biddle recently spent a day at the city centre college to work with the dedicated students studying Hospitality VRQ 1.

The Sixways staff served up a masterclass to the students and guided them through the preparation and service of a menu, designed by the chefs, to 35 paying customers in the college’s Spires Restaurant.

Sixways Events has established close links with the college’s hospitality courses and its chef team regularly visits to give the students some industry experience, alongside the college’s vastly experienced team of chef lecturers.

Sixways Events also employs a number of the students in the kitchens at Worcester Warriors on match days and other events to further enhance their knowledge and experience.

Brian Ryan, Sixways Events manager, and the team of chefs have also been heavily involved in the creation of employer workshops that are designed to aid new hospitality diplomas which the college will introduce from September.

The course offers students from 14 years of age an opportunity to specialise and study towards a qualification in specific industries up to the age of 19.

Mr Ryan said: “The team at Sixways Events is delighted to be able to help support the next generation of caterers in the city and help give them guidance, advice and experience to ensure they can become a success in the industry. As a club, we are fully behind the new diplomas being offered by Worcester College of Technology this September and plan to continue our college visits and student mentoring and workshops at Sixways Stadium.”

Lisa Leigh, hospitality diploma line manager at the college, said: “We have been delighted with the support we have received from the chefs at Worcester Warriors and the relationship we are building with Sixways Events.”
