Youngsters looking forward to a healthy working future

WORCESTERSHIRE Royal Hospital’s first apprenticeship scheme has got under way with a group of young apprentices starting their placements.

The 15 business administration apprentices, aged between 16 and 25, will typically spend four days each week in the workplace and one day a week at college. They are paid £95 per week and as well as gaining experience, they will earn NVQ qualifications if they successfully complete the course.

It is the first apprenticeship scheme offered by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust – the NHS body which runs the Worcester hospital – and is being funded by the Learning and Skills Council and West Midlands Strategic Health Authority. Trust chief executive John Rostill said: “I am delighted we are able to launch this scheme, particularly at a time when he hear so much about the difficulties younger people are facing in finding jobs.

“I look forward to welcoming the new apprentices. I hope that unlike their TV namesakes, they find their boss a little more easy-going than Sir Alan Sugar.”
