St Peter's Women's Institute

MAUREEN Matthews, president, welcomed members to the first meeting of 2010.

Christine Williams said we had received invitations to Whittington, North Claines and Broomhall WIs.

The group meeting is on Wednesday, March 31, at County Hall. The annual council meeting at Malvern is March 24.

Subscriptions were collected and the voucher books given out.

Barbara had received a letter from Mary James thanking us for the shoe boxes, which gave such pleasure to the recipients on Christmas morning.

Margaret, one of our members, was in hospital after falling and breaking her hip and we all signed her a get well card.

Maureen introduced the speaker, Paul Harding, whose topic was “Egyptian life”. We have had Paul to speak before. He is a very entertaining speaker bringing history to life with his knowledge and enthusiasm for the period. He had two tables full of items to illustrate his talk, which we were able to examine later. Barbara gave the vote of thanks and Paul judged the competition “something Egyptian”, which was won by Joan Brand.

Refreshments followed during which a name was drawn out to go forward to the county bursary draw for a weekend to Denham College.

The lucky person was Christine.

Joan Shelley won first prize in the raffle. Maureen reminded everyone the next meeting was a fish and chip supper and quiz evening. We will always welcome visitors on the third Wednesday in the month at 7.30pm.
