TROUBLESOME trees are being chopped down by a district council.
A beech tree in Graham Road outside Springbank apartments and a cedar outside the Abbey Hotel in Abbey Road have both been inspected as unsafe by Malvern Hills District Council.
The trees in the Great Malvern Conservation Area are being cut down for health and safety reasons, after nearby householders raised concerns.
The beech is uprooting and in danger of falling down, while the cedar which is showing signs of root movement was deemed a danger to the hotel building and passersby.
Councillor David Hughes, housing chief, said: “The trees grow in a conservation area which has strict regulations about tree conservation but from time to time, as a last resort, action must be taken if trees pose a threat to either individuals or property.”
The owners of the two properties are considering planting replacements.
