Oliver bat is back

A BAT which was injured after being prematurely awoken from hibernation has been rehabilitated and released back into the wild.

The unfortunate mammal was nesting in the narrow crevice surrounding a window at a house in Lower Sapey, near Clifton-on-Teme, Worcestershire.

As the home owner opened the window, she heard a squeak and saw the bat fall to the floor. After calling the Bat Conservation Trust helpline, the bat, named Oliver, was soon in the care of Denise Foster from the Worcestershire Bat Group.

Mrs Foster, said: “When he arrived in care he was very thin but after a month of mealworm suppers he was a healthy weight and ready to be released. He was fit and fat enough to return to hibernation should the temperature drop again.”

Oliver was released at the house where he was hibernating and after a few laps of the garden he flew into nearby woodland.
