A LANDLADY says she will continue to fight for publicans’ interests after becoming the chairman of an organisation that provides support for licensees.
Linda Griffin, landlady of the Swan with Two Nicks, New Street, has taken over as Worcester Licensed Victuallers Association (LVA) chairman.
Mrs Griffin has been a licensee for more than 30 years and a member of the LVA committee since 1981. She follows in the footsteps of Mike Stevens, who was chairman of the organisation for more than 25 years.
Mr Stevens died aged 63 last December after losing his four-year battle with cancer.
Mrs Griffin said: “I am taking on this role, tinged with more than a little sadness after serving with Mike on this committee for so many years.
“We have also lost other valued friends and committee members.
“However, that makes us more determined to ensure all the hard work they put in is carried on, especially at this very difficult time for many pubs and licensees.
“Fortunately, there is a committee of strong, dedicated people, taken from all aspects of the licensed trade, who can bring their knowledge and experience to the table.”
Mrs Griffin said the committee was dedicated to keeping members informed about changes in the law and helping prospective landlords take over vacant pubs.
She said: “We will maintain good contacts with the police, licensing and tourism authorities and create new initiatives to encourage more traders.”
Anyone with queries or questions can contact the committee by e-mailing L.V.A.Worcester@ hotmail.com.
