VOLUNTEER mentors are being sought by a Worcester charity that works with vulnerable woman.

The Asha Centre in Bath Road needs people to help women in Worcestershire who are disadvantaged.

Sarah Eardley, rural outreach project co-ordinator for the charity, said: “This is an exciting initiative which will empower and enable women to develop self confidence and self esteem through the support of a one-to-one mentor.

“A mentor will support a woman as long as there is need and will do so on a weekly basis for a couple of hours at a time.”

Ms Eardley said all mentors are trained in house and CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked.

“Volunteers need no experience of volunteering as all aspects of the role of mentor are covered off in training and volunteers are reimbursed for expenses,” she said.

The charity often has women referred to it from other organisations such as mental health practitioners, the community drugs team and children’s centres.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Justice.

The next training course will run in April for six weeks, a morning per week.

Volunteers must have a car and be able to attend all training sessions and be available two to three hours a week.
