VOLUNTEERS who look after footpaths have signed up to a new agreement confirming their commitment to the scheme.
The 130 parish path wardens across Worcestershire will continue to carry out minor maintenance such as waymarking and vegetation clearance from the public rights of way network in their parish.
They also act as local points of contact for path problems in their parishes, using their local knowledge to ensure the paths are well kept.
Amanda Hill, Worcestershire County Council's countryside access volunteers officer, said: "Our parish paths warden scheme has been successful in delivering public rights of way maintenance and improvement at a local level, benefiting from the local knowledge of local people.
“Our volunteers advise and assist landowners by providing volunteer groups to install gates and keep vegetation cut back, as well as leading local walks and holding events.
“Our volunteers are an essential part of the delivery of a good rights of way network across the county."
The parish path wardens are on the lookout for extra pairs of hands to help out and there are still some vacancies on the scheme in some parishes across the county.
