IT'S all doom and gloom on the football pitch after news that England superman David Beckham appears to be out of the World Cup.

It's thought the country's most capped player tore his Achilles tendon in AC Milan's 1-0 win over Chievo yesterday, making it almost certain that he'll miss the tournament, the finals for which take place in South Africa from June.

The hopes of the nation have rested on the 34-year-old midfielder's shoulders for the past three World Cups, but that now looks like it could all be over.

Back in November we asked if you thought the national squad could win in South Africa and the results were interesting.

So given the latest major development we'd like to know how your views have changed - if at all.

After Beckham's unfortunate injury can we still do it? Could we anyway?

Will on-form Wayne Rooney pull it out of the bag?

...or will England be also-rans again?

Please let us know your thoughts in the comment box below and take a moment to vote in our poll.
