Get your skates on and keep fit for free

YOUNGSTERS from Worcester are making the most of free skate and BMX sessions in the city.

SK8 and Play has been set up by a group of four experienced extreme sport enthusiasts to give children between the ages of five and 16 the opportunity to get active.

The scheme was helped by the Worcester Play Council and a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

The latest event at Pitchcroft on Saturday was the fourth one the group has organised, although two were cancelled due to the snow.

The group plan to have 42 events throughout the year to encourage children to get active and give them something to do on a Saturday afternoon.

A Land Rover filled with play equipment and which tows a trailer with skate ramps, skateboards, BMX helmets and pads will be at each session.

It’s not just for experienced skaters. The team is on hand to teach children new skills as well so it’s open for everyone to get active and get involved.
