Follow celebrity footsteps in aid of Sport Relief

DO your bit for charity this month by following in the footsteps of some of our best loved celebrities and take part in one of several Sport Relief events being held across the county.

The Sainsbury’s Sports Relief Mile will take place on Sunday and participants can choose to run, walk, skip or even hop their way around one, three or six miles (1.6km, 4.8km, or 9.6km respectively).

Here is a list of events taking place locally: The Worcester Perdiswell park mile, Bilford Road, Worcester.

The Droitwich rugby mile, Hanbury Road, Droitwich.

The Stourport mile, Kingsway, Stourport-on-Severn.

The Evesham one-on-one mile, Riverside, Evesham.

An unofficial mile, sponsored by Worcester City Council, will also take place at Cripplegate Park, St John’s, Worcester, on Sunday.

Anyone can take part, from family groups to serious sprinters.

Dave Haggart, Sport Relief event co-ordinator, said: “We have had a fantastic public response to the mile this year in Worcestershire and across the country.

“We have had to increase the capacity of the mile in Perdiswell park because the demand was so great.

“So many have entered the event this year that they are starting to sell out.

“I would advise anyone who wants to take part but hasn’t entered yet to do so quickly so they are guaranteed a place.”

The entry fee is £5 for adults and £2 for children under 16. Participants also need to raise sponsorship money as part of the mile.

Sport Relief has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things.

Last summer comedian and actor Eddie Izzard set an incredible standard by running 43 marathons in 51 days around the UK.

This year comedian David Walliams, presenter Davina McCall and radio DJ Fearne Cotton, among others, cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End on the BT Sport Relief million pound bike ride.
