Look who called in to see us at school

CHILDREN learnt about civic duties when the Mayor of Worcester paid a visit to their school.

Pupils from Riversides School in Thorneloe Road, Barbourne, Worcester, were thrilled to be able to meet Councillor Andy Roberts during a special assembly yesterday.

Coun Roberts is a former governor of the special school, which caters for children with emotional, social and behavioural problems.

Headteacher Barbara Scott said meeting a mayor and mayoress will help youngsters understand roles within the community.

“The children were really interested, especially when some of the pupils got to try on the mayoral chain and robes,” she said.

“The idea behind the talk was that we wanted to broaden the children’s experiences and get them to meet people who make a difference to their everyday lives, but whom they might not come across under normal circumstances. It also helped them understand community roles.”
