Unemployment numbers fall


UNEMPLOYMENT numbers have fallen across the whole of south Worcestershire.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show the total number of people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance (JSA) in Worcester, Malvern Hills, Wychavon and Wyre Forest last month was 8,805 compared with 8,892 in January - a drop of 87 people.

The figure for December 2009 was 8,045.

In Worcester the figure fell from 2,731 to 2,695, Malvern Hills saw a reduction from 1,144 to 1,140, Wychavon saw a drop of seven people - 2,250 to 2,243 and Wyre Forest had 40 fewer people claiming JSA - 2,767 to 2,727.

In Herefordshire the figure has risen from 3,028 in January to 3,106 last month. The figure has continued to rise across the county as their were 2,726 claimants in December last year.

Does this mean that all the people who are no longer claiming Job seekers allowance are now in employment or could it be that they now recieve a different benefit or allowance? The figures would look more positive if that information was added to their announcement.

If the national figures are anything to go by. The number of people 'unemployed' has fallen but the number of people 'in the work place' has fallen.........price
less! Go figure that for yourself. If you want the real figure find the stats for the number of households with two or more adults out of employment, that suggests the real number is over 6 million!
