A WOMAN who runs a Worcestershire pub kicked a police officer in the shin after pretending to be unconscious while in a police cell, a court was told.
Teri Bell, aged 38, of the Talbot Head Hotel, Upton-upon-Severn, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer when she appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.
Lisa Mayne, prosecuting, said police were called to the High Street pub at about 1.30am on Sunday after Bell’s partner reported an alleged assault.
Officers arrived and saw the man had a fresh injury before going upstairs and finding the defendant in a bedroom.
Ms Mayne said Bell was clearly intoxicated, slurring her speech and was unsteady on her feet.
Bell then became aggressive towards the officers and began making threats. She was arrested on suspicion of assault against her partner and taken to Worcester police station, where she continued to behave aggressively.
Ms Mayne said: “At one point she pretended to be unconscious but then kicked out at one of the officers when they approached her.
“The officer received a redness and temporary discomfort to his shin area.”
When interviewed, Bell said that she had no memory of the incident, but accepted that she may have lashed out at the officer.
The court was told that Bell had two previous convictions for resisting arrest, with the most recent in 2007.
Mark Lister, defending, said Bell’s partner had not made a formal complaint and did not wish to press charges for the initial incident.
Mr Lister said: “She was arrested for an alleged assault on her partner and taken to the police station.
“When she was there she can’t remember anything that happened, she accepts she may have kicked out at the officer. She was barefoot at the time.”
Mr Lister said Bell was running the Talbot Head Hotel as a tenant and was not making any money out of the business.
Magistrates ordered her to pay £50 in compensation to the officer and £50 in costs.
