"Murder accused was frightened for her life"

A policeman who took one of the accused in the Hartlebury Common murder trial to hospital told a jury that she was fearful for her life.

Pc James McConnon said Tracy Carpenter had bandaged hands and was in a state of shock. She claimed she had been stabbed and that the bandages had been put on by her husband.

He said: "She was concerned about going to the police station because she said someone would get her.

"She was shaking and frightened about being harmed."

In the end, it was decided that she should not go to a local hospital but was taken to Selly Oak, Birmingham.

Carpenter, aged 46, and her husband Paul, 55, of Park Crescent, Stourport, deny the murder of 19-year-old Shane Price, of Broach Road, Stourport.

Their 19-year-old son Joe, also of Park Crescent, pleaded guilty to the murder before the trial of his parents began at Worcester Crown Court.

The court has heard that the Price and Carpenter families met by agreement at the beauty spot near Stourport on February 13 last year to sort out problems between the teenagers.

Shane Price died after he was stabbed through the heart.

Tracy Carpenter also denies wounding Shane Price's mother Eileen. Paul Carpenter denies wounding his father, Frederick Price Senior.

The prosecution alleges that what was intended to be a "fair-play fight" ended in murderous violence.

The trial resumes tomorrow.
