Son crashed dad's car in to parked vehicles

A FORMER heroin user stole his father’s car and crashed in to other vehicles after going out to pick up his girlfriend.

Jamie Arthur, aged 31, of Sinclair Court, Evesham, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, causing damage, and driving the car without a licence or insurance when he appeared before Worcester’s magistrates.

The court heard that Arthur, who had previously been disqualified from driving for 12 months in December 2008, took his dad’s car to pick up his girlfriend after she called him saying she had had an argument with her father and was worried for her safety.

He admitted in a police interview that had he asked his father’s permission to take the car he would have said no, but his father was asleep upstairs in the house.

But after picking his girlfriend up in the car, Arthur crashed in to a car when it pulled out of a blind junction in front of him.

The collision then started a series of events, involving at least nine more cars, five of which were directly linked to the first incident after he swerved to avoid the crash.

In an attempt to get away from the scene, Arthur then reversed the car and ended up crashing in to five parked cars causing damage to all of them.

He fled before being arrested by police.

Sam Lambsdale, defending, said the incident had “completely destroyed” his relationship with his father and was now staying with friends after being thrown out of the house.

She said despite that Arthur had “stayed clean” from drugs.

Arthur was sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work, a 12-month supervision order, and ordered to complete the Thinking Skills programme and pay £85 in court costs.
