FIREFIGHTERS across Worcestershire had a busy Easter after being called out to a number of fires during Sunday night and yesterday morning.
Three crews were sent to tackle a fire in a first-floor flat at Badger Gardens, St Peter’s, Worcester, at about 9pm on Sunday evening amid reports that there were people trapped inside the property.
The crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service took two hose reels and breathing apparatus for four people but found no one was inside on their arrival.
The fire had been put out by just after 10pm and an investigation to find out what caused the blaze has now been launched.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police confimed that a 34-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of arson. He was at Worcester police station helping officers with their enquiries as your Worcester News went to press.
At 3am on Easter Monday, firefighters also received a call to farm plant machinery, which was on fire at the back of Jet Plant Hire in Evesham.
Three hose reels and foam were used to put out the fire at Badsey Road, Evesham, and firefighters were able to leave the scene by 5am. A fire inspection was due to take place at 11am yesterday morning.
At 3.20am, firefighters were called out to a barn fire at Kyre Pool Lane, Kyre Pool, near Tenbury Wells.
Firefighters using two fire engines from Tenbury Wells and a water carrier from Bewdley spent several hours tackling the blaze at the barn. A fire investigation has also been launched into the incident.
No one was injured or required hospital treatment at any of the three fires.
