AN aspiring casting director showed she can also be the star of the show when she was crowned Miss Worcester 2010.
It was a case of second time lucky for Katie Sinclair who finished runner-up to Leanne Groutage last year.
Miss Sinclair managed to do enough to impress a panel of seven judges, including Miss Groutage and current Miss England Katrina Hodge, and go one step further in yesterday’s event held at Worcester Racecourse.
Holly Field, aged 23, of Malvern, and Rosie Brown, 19, of Worcester, finished second and third respectively in what was a close-run competition.
Miss Sinclair, a 20-year-old film and ancient history student, said she was “shell-shocked” to have won. She will now go on to represent the county at Miss England.
“It feels incredible, I can’t actually believe it,” she said. “It was such a strong competition I didn’t think I had even got into the top three.
“It has been a dream of mine to go to Miss England ever since I entered Miss Worcester last year – it’s all I have been thinking about.
“It has taken a lot of guts to come back and do it all again – I was really worried – but this means everything.”
Miss Sinclair, a part-time bank cashier of South Littleton, near Evesham, said the competition sponsored by Sin and Bushwackers had really helped to develop her confidence.
The former Prince Henry’s High School pupil said she wants to use her new-found status to help local charities but especially the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.
Your Worcester News has also adopted the campaign to raise £2.5 million to build a new breast care unit at 220 Newtown Road on the site of Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Miss Sinclair said: “It has been hard work getting to this point but I just want to enjoy it and use it to help other people.”
Before passing on the crown Miss Groutage, aged 18, of Holt Heath, said: “It is inspirational that Katie has tried again and it just shows that if you really try then you can get the things you want in life.”
Miss Hodge, who is also a serving member of the British Army, said: “I feel that Katie is going to be a good representative of Worcester and will hopefully do well at Miss England – she has got the full package to.”
