Why is a girl’s picture on my driving licence?

TEENAGER Mitchel Dallimore had an unwelcome surprise as he eagerly unwrapped his first provisional driving licence – only to find the face of a complete stranger staring back at him from the photocard.

Although Mr Dallimore’s name and address are correct on the licence received from the DVLA, the pupil from Hanley Castle High School, near Malvern, was shocked to find a stranger’s signature and a picture of a young woman staring back at him from the photocard.

Mr Dallimore, from Pendock, near Upton-on-Severn, sent off his application for a provisional licence in good time as he plans to take his first driving lessons when he turns 17 in August.

However aside from the obvious inconvenience of having to go through the application process again, his mother Judi is concerned about the security of her son’s personal information.

“I am disgusted with the DVLA. They said sorry over the phone but then a letter turned up with no word of ap- ology whatsoever,” she said.

DVLA spokesman Elayne Phillips said: “We are looking into the problem.”

Hmmmm, something like 32,000,000 driving licence holders in the UK.
.
I guess they'll make the odd mistake, but I'm sure they'll put it right as soon as they can.

Ground breaking News. The DVLA must have a reason for doing this. It could not have possibly have been an error !

it's the numbers game, when the bus passes were being issued there were also locally a few similar mistakes. I remember seeing a bus pass with a picture of builders scaffold, and different persons photographs. It could be said that initially the processing was to be undertaken locally, but yet another unwise government interferance and the total , many millions of bus passes, were to be printed and posted out by just one company Fuji. The numbers were eye watering and mistakes happened, but quickly rectified.

His mother is disgusted is she? What about keeping a sense of proportion here? It's mildly amusing at best. Can't blame the WN if people want to make themselves look stupid by running to the press with stories like these. I feel sorry for her son, because he's bound to get the whatnot taken out of him now isn't he?
