Abusive cyclist had downed 12 pints

A DRUNK Worcester man punched an ambulance and swore at paramedics who tried to help him after he fell off his bike.

Stephen Harrison said he had consumed 12 pints on the day in question and admitted “I don’t know when to stop”.

He admitted being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said ambulance crews were called to Laugherne Road, St John’s, Worcester, at 12.55am on Saturday, August 14, to reports of a man lying on the floor.

When they arrived Harrison woke up and became abusive, swearing at the paramedics.

“They formed the opinion he was intoxicated,” said Mr Dodson. “He stood up and punched the ambulance window three times but there was no damage.”

The paramedics called police.

Officers said Harrison, aged 37, of Bramley Avenue, off Hallow Road, Worcester, smelt strongly of alcohol and kept shifting between being apologetic and aggressive.

He was arrested and taken to Worcester Police Station where his behaviour remained erratic.

Harrison, defending himself, said: “I’m sorry for what I’ve done. When I go out drinking I don’t know when to stop.”

Magistrates were told Harrison was the subject of a conditional discharge following an incident in which he assaulted his former partner after a day drinking on Saturday, July 11.

Sentencing was adjourned until Monday, September 27.
