A WORCESTER couple have been fined £175 each after their son failed to attend school on a regular basis.

Paul Bayliss, aged 39 and his wife, Samantha, 31, of Borrowdale Drive, Warndon, were not in court when their case was heard and it was proved in their absence.

Prosecuting, Helen Bacon, senior education welfare officer at Worcestershire County Council, said between September 20 last year and March 13, the couple’s seven-year-old son could have attended 191 sessions at Perry Wood Primary School - sessions are broken down into morning and afternoon.

But he attended just 136 sessions - 13 absences were authorised but 42 were deemed unauthorised.

Mrs Bacon, said: “They were asked to contact the school but no contact was made.”

The couple were fined £175 each and must both pay a £15 victim surcharge. They must also pay £75 costs.
