MORE than 1,100 women, including a team from Acorns in Worcester, turned the streets of Birmingham into a sea of colour as they raised a magical £94,000 towards care for life-limited children.

The female-only Midnight Walk 2010 for Acorns Children’s Hospice started from Millennium Point in the city.

Walkers donned everything from tutus, and fancy dress, as well as T-shirts emblazoned with the names of the children they loved.

Kerrie Davies, Acorns’ events manager, said: “It was an awesome night with hundreds of women, most of them in fancy dress.

“Acorns needs to raise £6 million a year to provide services to almost 600 local children and families who cannot get such care and support anywhere else.

“The £94,000 pledged is such a wonderful help. Acorns’ families really appreciated the way that everyone generously gave up their time.”

A good night’s sleep can be elusive for families of Acorns’ children who need constant care.

The Acorns Midnight Walk aimed to remind the community how important Acorns services are to local families all year, as walkers helped raise funds and awareness to support care.

People can support the work of Acorns in Worcester next week at a concert organised by Friends of Worcestershire Children at 7.30pm on Friday, September 24, at St George’s RC Church in the city.

Tickets at £12.50, including refreshments, are available on 01886 832438.
