A MARKETING manager has raised more than £3,200 for a Worcester hospice after completing the New York marathon.

Rebecca Barningham, aged 34, of Kempsey, near Worcester, finished the 26-mile challenge in three hours and 47 minutes.

Her fund-raising for St Richard’s Hospice has boosted funds for the charity alongside £3,000 already raised by her partner Will Halford last year by selling sheep at Worcester’s livestock market.

The couple donated the money as a thank you for the care of the late Robert Halford, Will’s father.

Robert Halford was born and farmed all his life at Common Farm, Kempsey, until he died of cancer in the hospice last year, aged 69.

Will Halford continues to run the family farm where he worked with his father.

“My mother, Andrea, sister Lindsey and I came to the hospice every day when dad was there and we wanted to give something back as a thank you for all the excellent care he received,” Mr Halford said.

On his visits to the hospice, Mr Halford took in his father’s sheep dog Midge, which his dad loved.

Alison Parkes, St Richard’s senior community fund-raiser, said: “Will, Rebecca and the family have been fantastic in raising funds for the hospice and we are very grateful for their donations.

“The money will help us to continue caring for more patients.”
