A CONTROVERSIAL wind farm will not be built after planners threw out the proposals.

As reported on this website briefly yesterday, Wychvon District Council planning committee rejected the plans by Scottish Power Renewables to put five turbines on land at Bishampton Bank in the Lenches, near Evesham.

Planning officers had recommended the plans for refusal because the turbines would cause “unreasonable” noise, pose an “oppressive” view to nearby residents and were simply not in keeping with the rural landscape.

Officers had made their recommendation “notwithstanding the importance of renewable energy”.

Councillors followed those recommendations when they rejected the applications by a strong majority with Councillor Margaret Rowley the only member to vote in support of the plan.

There was a heated debate before the decision which saw the Pershore Civic Centre chamber packed by interested members of the public.

Have the people who approve of wind farms no common sense? They have been proved to be inefficient even by their original proposer. They desecrate the countryside and their owners are given lavish subsidies - that is why they are so popular with power companies and irresponsible farmers who also get a rake-off. I wonder how many people who approved of them would welcome them 500 metres from their home. These particular ones are 415 feet high - Nelson's Column is 169 feet and the average house is no more than 30 feet. Put that into perspective.

It was also an insult by Scottish Power to attempt to put them in the Lenches. The Scottish parliament will not countenance nuclear power in Scotland so they should suffer their own wind farms.

I'm just curious, if people are against wind turbines, what form of power generation would they support?

Nuclear power is the only option. Wind farms need a 100% backup for when there is no wind, which always happens at the coldest time. The only people who object to nuclear are the leftovers from Nuclear Disarmament. And Chris Huhne of course.
