A WORCESTER nightspot has been put on the market after its boss walked away from the premises.

Bossa Nova in New Street is being marketed with a lease of £80,000 a year after nightclub operator Graham Lock said he had “nothing to do” with the club any more.

He took over in May 2009 and completed a total refurbishment of the nightspot.

He also secured approval for a major renovation project to extend and add a rooftop terrace.

But all the up-market fixtures and fittings were stripped out of the building and the decor is back to the brickwork in many places.

We previously reported that it was shut last year.

The ground-floor bar and seating were removed, as well as the toilets with estimates of a complete refit of the building put at about £1 million.

Dean Hill, who runs Tramps nightclub in Angel Place, Worcester, said he had looked around the premises three times.

He said: “I have been to see it and I’m considering all my options.”

The lease – which has been marketed for six months – is for the extended floorplan incorporating the old Hatt Kitchens showroom at 14 and 15 New Street, made up of a basement, ground, first and second floors.

But the freehold is not for sale, according to the property’s joint agents Bristol-based Macarthur Wilson.

Paul Todd, manager at Worcester’s Sin bar and a business partner at Bush-wackers, said there was no interest from his partners in taking on the lease.

He said: “On the face of it, it just isn’t a viable business for us.

"There’s an issue with enough fire exits on the different levels and paying to have security watching the different areas – it all costs money.”

Anthony Walker, of Macarthur Wilson, said the building “needs a little bit of work”.

He said: “We’ve had steady interest and we’re talking to one or two people.”

Mr Lock declined to comment on why he had walked away from the business.
