WORCESTERSHIRE’S six MPs have urged the Government to give the county’s schools a better funding deal as quickly as possible.

A joint letter signed by Harriett Baldwin (West Worcestershire), Mark Garnier (Wyre Forest), Sajid Javid (Bromsgrove), Peter Luff (Mid-Worcestershire), Karen Lumley (Redditch) and Robin Walker (Worcester), who are all Conservatives, was handed in as the Goverment’s consultation on a new funding formula came to a close on Tuesday.

Worcestershire County Council and the f40 group, which campaigns on behalf of the lower funded local authorities, have also submitted their own responses urging the reforms to be implemented from 2013/14 and not a later period.

Mr Walker, who has been at the forefront of the campaign to revamp the way funds are handed down from central government to schools in a bid to make it fairer, said: “I was as pleased as anyone when the Government promised a new formula but as frustrated as any when it became clear that it would take years to implement.

“Today’s response from MPs shows our determination to push this forward.”
