A COUPLE who met on a blind date while studying at medical school are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
David and Sarah Wilson, of Pensham, near Pershore, found they had the prescription for success when they were both training in London – David as a doctor and Sarah as a nurse.
They met at the annual matron’s ball at the Grosvenor House Hotel after being set up by a mutual friend.
The happy couple married on January 20, 1962, and lived in Wolverhampton before moving to Pensham in 1965.
They both worked in Pershore – Mr Wilson as a GP at the family practice and Mrs Wilson as a nurse in Evesham and Pershore hospitals before joining her husband at the practice.
Mrs Wilson, aged 72, said the secret to their lasting marriage was down to her husband making her laugh.
“I think a sense of humour – which my husband has in abundance – has kept us together,” she said.
“Also our Christian faith. A bit of give and take. We try not to go to bed on an argument.
“We are also very blessed to have all our family around us.”
The couple, who have four grown-up children and eight grandchildren and are now retired, celebrated their anniversary in style by throwing a party for 140 of their friends and family.
