Drink driver bit through lip in crash

A WOMAN was found to be above the drink-drive limit after she was involved in a crash which was not her fault.

Police were called to a crash between two cars on Common Road in Evesham on Tuesday, February 28.

Both drivers were breathalysed and Angela Rigby was found to have 80mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 35mcg.

The 36-year-old told officers the driver of the other car had been on the wrong side of the road and said she had consumed one small glass of wine, which had been topped up with water, and did not realise she was over the limit.

Barry Newton, defending, said there was no suggestion his client was at fault for the accident and had needed medical attention afterwards, having bitten through her bottom lip and suffered severe bruising to her arm.

He said Rigby had been having difficulties with one of her neighbours who had been “making her life pretty awful” and was on anti-depressant medication. However, she had been taking the medicine properly and it would have no bearing on the reading.

He said her anxiety had meant she had not been eating properly.

Magistrates fined Rigby, of Robins Corner, Evesham, £300 and disqualified her from driving for 16 months.

They ordered her to pay £85 costs, a £15 victim surcharge and offered her a drink driving course, which would reduce her ban by four months.
