DELIGHTED Malvern Rotarians have revealed that this year’s pancake race in Priory Park was the club’s most successful to date.

Members have been busy totalling up sponsorship money and were thrilled to announce this week that the final sum raised for charity stood at a new record of more than £2,500.

The team that contributed the most sponsorship was Morgan Motor Company, which brought in £400. It has nominated St Richard’s Hospice to receive half of its money, while the remainder will be used to support various Rotary causes.

The team will receive a trophy, as well as vouchers from main sponsor Waitrose.

The pancake race also attracted a record number of entries this year after the decision was made to hold it during half-term week, rather than on Shrove Tuesday itself.

But Rotarians also say that the decision to let teams entering on behalf of a charity to keep all their proceeds for their own cause helped boost the numbers.

A spokesman for Malvern Save the Children said: “We are delighted that it generated £294 for us.”
