WORLD Party is the theme of this year’s Malvern Fringe May Day celebrations.

Organisers are promising a day to let your hair down and a chance to connect with your local community of artists, artisans and musicians, foodies and friends.

All are welcome at the event which will be held in Priory Park, in the heart of Great Malvern, next Saturday from 11am.

The musical line-up includes folk band Treefrogs, Sam Eden, the Phil Howard Saxophonist Duo, new soul from Hullabaloo and indie rock from Threshing Ground, with more acts to be confirmed.

Tribal beats outfit Drumlove will be hosting percussion workshops, including one on bhangra rhythms, and Bard of Malvern Jai Hill will deliver his annual address.

Food and drink suppliers include the Malvern Hills Brewery, which will be running a bar featuring a special May Day ale and organic food cafe Greenlink.Workshops for young people include street art, mask and headdress-making, circus skills and hula-hooping.

At 2.30pm, a parade will take the fun and music out on to the streets led by the Baixa Beat samba band and Club Dance UK.

Most of what goes on is free and organisers simply want people to turn up and enjoy the day. May Day is a community event and attracts support from local businesses and organisations, such as schools and local craftspeople, musicians and artists and entertainers of all kinds.

Sam Hemming, of Malvern Fringe, said: “We are very grateful to the town council for their grant. Every penny counts, especially in these times when support is so hard to come by. We have local talented musicians to thank too for the busking fund-raiser, which raised around £140.”
