AN inspirational youngster has been honoured by a charitable campaign and a global wrestling federation for his hard work and support of others with muscle-wasting conditions.

The tag team of WWE and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign named Murray Field as the Midlands region’s 2012 WWE Community Champion in recognition of the time and effort he has dedicated to helping others.

Murray, aged 14, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, was nominated for the incredible contribution he has made to helping others across the region, including helping to secure major funding for specialist health workers.

Murray, from King George Avenue, Droitwich, said: “I’m really excited about being a WWE community champion.

“I think it is important for people to know that although a person’s muscles may be weak, their heart and spirit can be very strong.”

In recognition of his achievement, Murray won tickets to the WrestleMania Revenge Tour in Nottingham on Sunday, April 15, as well as a WWE merchandise pack and a certificate. His story was also told on WWE.com.

The initiative aims to encourage young people across the UK to volunteer or raise funds for the charity.

The charity focuses on muscle disease and it has pioneered the search for treatments and cures for more than 50 years, dedicating time to improving the lives of all children and adults affected by muscular dystrophy.

It funds world-class research to find effective treatments and cures; provides practical information, advice and emotional support for people with muscular dystrophy and other related conditions, their carers and families; campaigns to bring about change and raise awareness of muscular dystrophy and other related conditions; awards grants towards the cost of specialist equipment, and provides specialist education and development for health professionals.
