WORLD SPORTS DAY FUN: Headteacher Julia Dean, Cecil Duckworth and Andy Goode, from Worcester Warriors, with, front, Laura Cole and Sam Morgan.
PUPILS from Norton-Juxta-Kempsey CE First School in Littleworth flew the flag for the Olympics with their World Sports Day.
The event, which was attended by Worcester Warriors’ Andy Goode, saw pupils hold their own version of the torch relay, followed by an athletics parade.
The torch relay featured pupils picked for the task in recognition of different achievements, as well as pupils who had won competitions held in the school to design a stamp and an Olympic ring.
Each class had been designated a different country and for World Sport Day, each was dressed in a colour for that country’s flag.
Julia Dean, headteacher, said: “The children are so excited about the Olympics, and many went to watch the real Olympic torch when it passed through Worcester, so re-creating it at our World Sports Day now makes it even more meaningful.
“The entire school learned a Mascot Dance and they performed it beautifully. “It was an extra bonus to have Andy Goode here joining in the celebrations. All in all, it’s been a superb occasion for the children, and has reinforced all the work they are doing learning about the Olympics in lots of fun and interesting ways.”
