Thousands at Battle Proms

Thousands flocked to the spectacular Battle Proms Concert held in the lakeside setting at Ragley Hall in Alcester at the weekend.
As well as a 2 hour programme of classical favourites performed by the New English Concert Orchestra, the 6,500-strong audience was treated to a wealth of entertainment including mounted Napoleonic skill-at-arms displays and toe-tapping harmonies from the Andrews Sisters tribute, The Rockabellas. A highlight for many was the arrival of a WWII Spitfire performing manoeuvres over the crowd. Unique to this event is the thundering of 200 live cannons alongside Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Beethoven’s ‘Battle Symphony’.
The event came back last year to Ragley Hall after a 10 year break, and organisers are delighted at the success so far, with plans to make it annual.
The event helped raise funds for the Battle Proms’ chosen charity: Combat Stress, the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, which specialises in helping veterans of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy with psychological injuries caused through service to their country.
