TWO 12-year old boys were robbed at knifepoint by youths in Malvern.

At around 9.45pm on Saturday (August 13) in Victoria Park, the boys were approached and threatened with a knife before a wallet was stolen from one of the boys backpacks on the floor.

Police officers questioned several people in the vicinity and enquiries are ongoing.

Town councillor Paul Tuthill said: “It’s not the sort of thing we want happening in Malvern Link, or anywhere around here.

“There were a number of outside elements in Malvern Link on Saturday night, and that’s all I want to say.”

The wallet was found abandoned later in the evening along with a grey hoodie.

West Mercia Police reported the two boys were not harmed but were shaken by the incident.

The offenders were described as teenagers wearing grey hoodies and black clothing, aged between 18 and 20 years old and were described as tall and slim and one of them had a Birmingham accent.

Councillor Clive Smith, of Malvern Town Council said: "The incident is most unfortunate but unfortunately it is the way of the world.

"It happens all over the place and I am very sad that it happened in Victoria Park."

The incident comes shortly after West Mercia Police issued a message that they were looking to reduce knife crime.

Police in Worcester are urging anyone carrying a blade to surrender it anonymously to a secure knife bin at Worcester Police Station as part of a force-wide crackdown.

West Mercia Police will run its knife surrender campaign until Friday, August 19, and those submitting a blade will not be required to leave any information.

The campaign was launched after police figures revealed that knife crime in Worcester increased by almost 30 percent in the last year.

There were 45 knife offences in Worcester between 2015 and 2016, a 28.6 percent increase from the year before.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or knows anything about it should call police on 101 and quote incident number 774s of Saturday 13 August.
