Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has announced a "clear history" tool for the social networking site that will allow people to delete data Facebook has stored about them.

Speaking at the annual F8 developer conference, Mr Zuckerberg referred to the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal as a "major breach of trust", and said: "We need to make sure this doesn't happen again."

The new tool will allow users to see the information third party sites and apps have collected on them through Facebook, and will then give the option to delete it.

There will also be the option to turn off Facebook's ability to store this information in the future.

Mr Zuckerberg said: "We need to take a broader view of our responsibilities. It's not enough to just make powerful tools, we need to make sure that these tools are used for good.

"We're hard at work making sure people don't misuse our platform."

He also announced a new dating feature, through which people can create a separate profile and be shown potential "matches", based on chosen preferences and things in common such as mutual friends.
