Mail cash robbers hunted

10:51am Wednesday 26th September 2001

POLICE are hunting three men after a post office raid in Beckenham.

They got into the office on Upper Elmers End Road during a cash delivery on September 14 at 7.15pm.

The men joined the queue before one of them dived through a serving hatch to seize the money.

The owner of the shop tried to push the robber back but was struck in the face with a sharp object and knocked to the floor.

Having failed to halt the raid, he was again flung to the floor as the robbers fled with a substantial amount of cash. They made their escape down Eden Park Avenue.

The first suspect was described as black, 6ft 2in, heavily built with shaved hair and a good complexion. He was wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans and may be in his mid to late 20s.

His two accomplices were both black and were wearing baseball caps.

Call Detective Constable Bob Lawrence of the Flying Squad on 020 7407 6319 with information.
