This leather stick stand started life as a case for carrying a field gun shell.
Recently I have mentioned in these pages various lots that I was about to sell in my recent antique sale. Well, my Flog It! experience it seems has paid off, fortunately, with none of my pre-sale estimates being the cause of too much embarrassment to me.
You may recall the story of the lorry - well, it's now got a new owner and I wasn't too far off with my estimate, it having sold for £200. In the same sale the pair of damaged miniature tea bowls and saucers made £300 and, after some extensive research, I was able to attribute them to the Liverpool factory. The miniature blue and white china dolls' house service made a pleasing £460, surpassing my estimate of between £200 and £300, and the carved Indian alabaster animal souvenirs' realised £150.
We saw some phenomenal prices being paid for the Worcester porcelain, with the older and more modern examples of the painted fruit vases I mentioned, each making around £2,500 a piece. The David Bates farmyard scene in Eckington fetched £1,950 and the Royal Doulton George Tinworth mouse doubled my estimate to make £1,300, despite being damaged.
