PEOPLE in Fairfield are taking part in the national campaign to Clean for the Queen this month and next month with two community litter picking events.

The campaign, which has been organized as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations, is supposed to encourage communities to tackle spots blighted by litter with volunteer efforts.

The litter picking sessions in Fairfield are being led by this year’s Miss Worcestershire Laura Morgan, who is encouraging the residents to pick up their litter, together with Fairfield Village Community Association, who are coordinating Keep Fairfield Tidy.

Residents are being asked to come out and collect litter from the village’s roads, on Saturday, March 19 at the Swan Inn, and again on Saturday, April 23 at the junction of Bournheath Road and Brook Road, both starting at 10.30am.

The volunteers will be helped out by Bromsgrove District Council, which is supplying them with litter picking equipment and special ‘Clean for the Queen’ black bags.

Fairfield Café and Fairfield General Stores are also supporting the community litter pick, and children from Fairfield First School will also be taking part in a litter pick of their own, clearing the sides of School Drive which lead up to their school.

Clean for The Queen campaign director Adrian Evans, said: “It is great to see so many local authorities, including Fairfield, getting behind Clean for The Queen. Litter is a problem that affects every corner of the country. By taking part in Clean for The Queen, individuals and communities will not only be giving The Queen a suitably impressive gift to mark her 90th birthday, they will also be giving themselves and their area a present – a clean space in which to live, work and play.”
