PUPILS at Orleton Primary School were part of a worldwide celebration this week.

A lion dance demonstrated by leading Leominster-based martial artist master Glenn Parry marked Chinese New Year at the school.

Glenn Parry demonstrated the dance he learned at first hand during his time in China.

The Lion Dance is a traditional part of Chinese culture and can expect to be performed all over the world for Chinese New Year of the Horse. He has been taking his lion dance to local schools for nine years.

"Most children in our schools may read about this fascinating part of Chinese Culture but seldom be able to experience it for real," says Glenn.

Chinese New Year was particularly special for Glenn too. He has been invited to be a student of global Grandmaster Liming Yue, a huge honour in the martial arts world.

Glenn will join 42 others from around the country selected by selected by Grandmaster Yue to attend the acceptance ceremony.

"This is a very special honour for me indeed. Grandmaster Yue is respected all over the world," said Glenn.
