BIG hearted truck drivers hit the road to show their support for a Dudley truck driver whose family is fighting liver disease.

Andy Day’s wife Rachel suffers from an auto immune liver disease and drivers got together on September 13 for an event to raise awareness about the need for more people to join the organ donor register.

The 48 vehicle convoy assembled at Hilton Park Services on the M6, from where they drove through Wolverhampton, Bilston, West Bromwich, Oldbury and then Dudley before finishing at The Kingfisher in Wall Heath.

Andy Day said: "There wasn't a bad word said when you think of all the congestion and delays the convoy would have caused. When people realised what we were doing, the stood and cheered.”

The convoy finished with an event at the Kingfisher which included an auction and raffle. Around £1,200 was raised for Queen Elizabeth Liver Organ Donation and to support families coping with illness.

Andy, aged 42 from The Priory, has been Rachel's partner for 21 years. She had a lifesaving transplant on Christmas Day 2006 but may need another transplant soon.

Andy added: "I was really humbled by the event. Half the lorry drivers who took part, I'd never even met before. I can't thank them enough".
