ON Sunday, September 14, the Redditch Lions held their first fun run in aid of men's cancer organisations.

During the morning, around 80 people set off for either a 2.5km or 5km circuit of Arrow Valley Lake raising money towards the Prostate Cancer charity and Rory the Robot fund at the Alexandra Hospital.

The success of the event was the culmination of many months work by the Redditch Lions, who decided last year to highlight the cancers that affect men.

A spokesman said: "There is a lot of support and promotion for breast cancer, but prostate and related cancers, are not so well promoted.

"With the support from those who took part in the run and the sponsors, Heaphys Men's Wear and Morrisons of Redditch, together with the NHS First Responders and the two charities Prostate Cancer and Rory the Robot, Redditch Lions would like to thank everyone for making this first ever event, a huge success."

An early estimate of money raised before all sponsorship has been collected is expected to be at least £1,000 and will be split between both charities."

Due to the success of this year's event, the Lions hope to hold a second run next year.
