PONTRILAS’ wastewater treatment plant is set for a £1.6m overhaul.

Work to upgrade the plant will begin today and last around seven months, but will have no effect on residents’ water, or wastewater services, Welsh Water has said.

Steve Wilson, director of wastewater services at Welsh Water, said: “This represents a major investment to enhance the existing wastewater treatment process and deliver an environmental boost to the local area.”

While the project is being completed, traffic on the A465 will be slowed down to 30mph through Pontrilas for the protection of workers entering and leaving the treatment works.

Pontrilas councillor Jim Knipe, said: “I’m pleased that Welsh Water is investing in the wastewater treatment works.

“The improved performance of the works will benefit local people and also bring environmental benefits to the area.”
