LUDLOW College is launching an ‘Academically More Able’ programme in the coming year to help assist potential students with the transition from school to both A Levels and its High Achiever’s Programme.

The recently appointed head of Ludlow College, Carl Morris, is keen to emphasise the benefits this can have for academically ambitious students.

“This is a great opportunity for students in year 10/11 to be introduced to and start developing skills such as critical thinking, research techniques, academic writing and scientific methods.

"This will not only assist students as they progress to their A Levels, it may enhance their achievement at GCSE as well.

“As the new head of Ludlow College I am very proud to be able to offer this provision as we further develop ways of supporting our partner schools.

"It also helps to make these students aware of financial opportunities such as The Foundation of Ludlow College Scholarship. "There are now so many ways that our college can help students broaden their horizons and make them well-prepared for top universities.”

In addition to the programme, the college has also widened its enrichment programme to include extra-curricular societies such as sports leadership, world of science, art academy, leadership academy and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

“Enrichment is a really important part of our students development and really helps widen their experience in preparation for higher education," said Mr Morris

"We’re looking forward to seeing these groups develop over the coming year.”

Ian Peake, principal of Ludlow College, added: “Carl is well qualified for managing this new programme and has extensive experience in teaching and managing academic programmes of learning for school leavers.

"He merits this senior role as head of Ludlow College and I am sure he will continue to be a highly effective colleague, both at college and in the local community."
