A LIBERAL Democrat Parliamentary candidate standing in West Worcestershire has thrown his support behind a mental health charity’s appeal for improved support for people in their darkest moments.
Dennis Wharton, who is running against Harriett Baldwin in May’s general election, has backed the call by Mind to make sure people who are suicidal, self-harming or suffering a psychotic episode get the help they need.
Last year local councils along with police forces, voluntary organisations and health bodies across the country signed up to the Mental Health Crisis Care Concordat, pledging to work together to avoid people suffering mental health problems from ‘falling through the cracks’.
Mr Wharton said it was estimated one in four people experience a mental health issue every year and it was important support was available to them when they needed it.
“I am supporting Mind’s campaign to improve crisis care and will be monitoring progress on any local concordat declarations to make sure that good intentions are made a reality for everyone trying to access crisis care,” he said.
