BRETFORTON'S first ever pantomime was held this month at the Fleece Inn.

The play took the popular fairytale Cinderella and familiar faces from the village took to the stage to perform at the beginning of February.

Amongst the cast were the vicar, the village pub landlord and the chair of school governors, while Reverend Anne Potter directed and the musical director was John Woods.

In all, some 45 local Bretforton residents of all ages took part to make up the cast and crew, making it a real community event.

Despite the logistical challenge of accommodating capacity audiences and heating against February chills, a marquee in the pub garden was transformed into the set and provided seating for more than 500 locals, villagers, friends and family across the three performances.

Nigel Smith, landlord of The Fleece Inn, played the part of one of the Ugly Sisters.

He said: "This was the first ever production by Bretforton Amateur Dramatics and I was delighted to be part of such a runaway success.

"It was a true village event: Cinderella but with a ‘Bret’ twist to liven it up. It was great fun, and I too quickly got used to wearing a dress.

"I think I speak for the entire cast and crew when I say that I am always looking forward to our next production."
